about
Modulaw is an artist, composer, and sound designer from Zurich, drawing his inspiration from experimental electronic music and sound art as well as more straightforward pop music such as contemporary rap and R'n'B. This is reflected in his work, ranging from acousmatic performances and sound installations to his own records, projects with vocalists and scoring for movies.
Coming from studies in sound design and electroacoustic composition, his ear for texture is a common denominator in all of his work, seeking innovation through combining references from different worlds.
"Transversal Progression" is a study on the auditory processing of cello and violin. Conceptually, it is about the question of abstracting source material which superficially no longer resembles acoustic instruments. The dramaturgy is created through a dialogue between static, space-filling textures and dynamic gestures and their spatialisation.
